An accelerator cable, also known as a throttle cable, is a braided metal cable that connects the gas pedal to the engine's throttle plate. The cable is pulled when the gas pedal is depressed, allowing the throttle to open. The accelerator and throttle cables are the same or serve the same purpose. The throttle cable connects the accelerator (gas pedal) to the throttle body; when you depress the accelerator, the cable moves, allowing the throttle plate inside the throttle body to open, allowing more air into the engine. It's easy to look for a component number or length on the cable's jacket if you're replacing old cables with new ones from the same manufacturer.
