A ball bearing is a special rolling-element bearing that aids motion by performing three tasks: carrying weights, lowering friction, and positioning moving machine elements. Ball bearings employ balls to separate two bearing rings, to reduce surface contact and friction across moving planes. When compared to flat surfaces rubbing against one another, the friction created by the rotating balls is lower. The rotating shafts of wheels, gears, turbines, and rotors in those devices are supported by bearings, enabling smoother rotation. They support the machine's internal rotating shaft.
