Center rope tube fenders (Big B fenders) allow you to hang the fender horizontally or vertically by using a single line that runs through the centerline. To keep the fender from sliding, tie a figure-eight knot at the end of the line or two figure-eights at both ends of the fender. Fenders protect the boat from damage and slow it down as it surges and rolls. To maintain a buffer zone between the dock and the boat, boats that tie up to floating docks usually set fenders just above the waterline. Boats that raft together places the fenders at the point of contact, the widest part of the beam.
