Volvo Penta (21388920), an electrical conductor can safely flow past a conducting barrier, such as the transformer or circuit breaker housing, without making electrical contact with it. Porcelain is for bushings, but other insulating materials are sometimes utilized. When any earthed material is present, it withstands the electrical field strength produced in the insulation. Leakage channels may form within the insulation as the electrical field strength increases. If the leakage path's energy exceeds the insulation's dielectric strength, the insulation may pierce, allowing the electrical energy to transfer to the nearest earthed substance, resulting in burning and arcing.
