The CYL HEAD TEMP WITH SENDER (F13806) temperature of an engine's cylinder head is measured. The head temperature gauge, usually use on air-cooled engines, displays the engine's work more quickly than an oil or water temperature gauge. A sending unit is a water-sealed unit that sits in the coolant stream and contains a temperature-sensitive material and part of variable resistance. The sending unit's resistance gradually decreases until the system reaches maximum heat.
The CYL HEAD TEMP WITH SENDER is a K-type thermocouple mounted beneath the spark plug. A K-type thermocouple crafted from two dissimilar metals produces a small voltage signal after being heated. The metal closest to the spark plug is the hot junction and the metal closest to the head is the cold junction. The thermocouple receives heat from the spark plug via the ring under the plug. At room temperature, which is 72° F (22° C), the gauge and cold junction are usually calibrated.
