Flushing An Outboard Engine Using A Built-In Connection Or Flush Muffs.
There are a couple of ways to flush an outboard motor, most modern engine designs have included flush connections, that are built-in, and can be connected to a garden hose. Engines that are equipped with this design can be flushed with the engine off. For engines that may a bit older motor muffs are the most common. Held by a spring or clamp the rubber cups fit over the cooling water intake ports on the outboard gearcase. Run the water before starting the engine, keep the engine idle allowing the freshwater to be flushed thoroughly for about 10 minutes.
