back Steering & Controls
There is usually no halfway once the coupler is released. There may be some friction left, and if you rev the engine up to typical cruising RPMs, the boat will slow down, perhaps not exceeding 8 knots. In the engine room, you'll smell burning rubber. The engine coupler connects the engine to the outdrive located outside the boat. The vibration is isolated between the engine and the outdrive by the coupler made of aluminum and rubber.
Using our Evinrude, Johnson, and Gale Outboard Motors COBRA/MERCRUISER (18-4442), the engine and outdrive should always be perfectly aligned to avoid early coupler failure. It is raising or lowering the engine's front end.
Key Features:
This tool is used to verify engine alignment on all Mercruiser, OMC Cobra, SX Cobra, and Volvo SX Sterndrives.
