They are most commonly used to seal the intersection of two target surfaces to prevent liquid and gas leaks. Additional benefits may include noise reduction, anti-vibration, and improved hygiene. An exhaust housing gasket is a mechanical seal that is often created from embossed steel with multiple layers. However, it can also produce using ceramic composites, high-temperature fiber, graphite, and mixtures of those materials. It is an essential part of the engine and functions as an elastomeric sealant at the joint of two surfaces.
