Unfiltered gasoline contains a lot of dirt and rust. These contaminants must be eliminated to avoid wear and eventual failure of the fuel pump and injectors. The fuel system stores gasoline in the tank, pulls it through fuel lines and delivers it to either a carburetor or a fuel injector via a fuel filter. The fuel is then delivered to the cylinder chamber, where it is combined with air, evaporated, and burned to generate energy. Because it keeps dangerous material out of your engine, a fuel filter is an integral part of this system. The fuel filter traps dirt and rust particles in the fuel, protecting the engine from damage.
