The pistons and cylinders in your engine are housed in the cylinder block, and the valves, spark plugs, and camshafts are all found in the cylinder head. The head gasket sits in cushioning between these two substantial engine components. The head gasket, one of the gaskets in your engine, is made to keep coolant and motor oil from escaping into the cylinders and the exterior. It also serves to seal the cylinders' firing pressure. When keeping cylinder pressure, coolant, and engine oil flowing via casting ports, the head gasket must endure the pressures of the two surfaces expanding, contracting, warping, and rubbing.
