A universal joint (also known as a universal coupling or U-joint) connects two rigid shafts with axes that are inclined to each other. It's typically in rotary motion transmission shafts. It comprises a cross shaft connecting two hinges that are near together and aligned at 90 degrees to each other. The universal joint is not a joint with a constant velocity. Driveshafts can move up and down with the suspension while transmitting power. It is Corrosion-resistant, and easy-to-maintain components are required in harsh marine environments or demanding naval U joint applications.
