A centrifugal pump's impeller is a revolving component featuring vanes or blades that revolve and propel the fluid through the pump. A shaft connects these vanes or blades. When the impeller rotates, it transforms the energy from a source, such as a motor, into the fluid flow.
The impeller is held in position on the pump shaft by impeller keys. It fits into a crucial depression on the pump shaft. It allows the impeller to revolve and pump fluids properly. The keys are always flat on the bottom. Thus, the tops might be square or rounded depending on the impeller. When replacing the impeller, always replace the impeller key to ensure optimum cooling system operation.
