Your boat's impeller is made up of a set of rubber vanes that are arranged around a hub. The tips of these flexible vanes can wear out for different causes, including regular use or being in sandy water. The impeller is the heart of the water pump, and it needs to be inspected and replaced regularly to maintain the engine functioning at its best. Mercury impellers provide boaters and mechanics the assurance that they are using an OEM item.
Because impellers are damaged by running through silty or sandy water or being driven dry, it's a good idea to have a spare on board in case something goes wrong.
