You can use shims or spacers to separate two materials for adjustment or drying in practically any application. The small, tapered component, which is often used in building applications to assure accuracy, can be made of metal or plastic depending on the purpose and can be temporary or permanent. Shims kits come in many sizes that can be individually or in combination to accommodate practically any application. Shims come in two types: strip and horseshoe. Horseshoe shims are perfect for fitting around existing mounts, screws, or nails, whereas strip or sheet shims can be trimmed to size for particular applications.
