An oil seal is a mechanism used in rotary shaft machinery to prevent dirt, dust, water, or any other foreign matter from contaminating shafts and bearings. It's also known as a shaft seal or a dirt seal, and it prevents lubricants like grease and oil from leaking along a revolving shaft. One of the most common causes of oil seal failure is the entry of dust and debris. In high-pressure applications, for example, even the tiniest particles can cause a break in the seal, allowing oil to seep and dirt to enter.
