Oil seals, also known as shaft seals, are radial lip-type seals used to keep lubricants in rotating, reciprocating, or oscillating shaft equipment. The rotating shaft is the most common application.
The sealing element, the metal case, and the spring are the three essential components of an oil seal. The sealing element's job is to prevent fluid seeping between the shaft and the housing. The metal shell provides stiffness and strength while the seal is kept in the bore or recessed groove.
The garter spring maintains radial force on the shaft and flattens the sealing edge to a predetermined width while ensuring constant pressure.
