The shift cable is connected to the transmission system by bushings. It is found near the bottom of the shifter lever, as well as the alternator, sway bar, control arm, and shock absorber in the suspension system. Shift bushings isolate vibrations from the shifter, making shifting more comfortable. By eliminating "throw" in gearshifts, they contribute to a tighter shift that doesn't feel slack or bounce between speeds.
