Tension springs, also known as tensional springs or extension springs, are coils that are tightly coiled and designed to act under the influence of 'tension.' For attachment reasons, they usually have a loop or hook at either end. When at rest, tension springs are tightly twisted and coiled together.
In general, tension springs allow an outside force to create tension pulling the components back together by reverting to their original shape. When at rest, tension springs are usually tightly twisted and coiled together. The spring strives to hold itself together when the components are pulled apart, usually from either side, creating the spring action until the force is stopped and the spring can return to its original form. The initial tension of most tension springs is the force that holds the spring coils together when they are coiled together.
