The thermostat head gasket prevents the engine's oil and coolant from leaking out. It's near the engine's cylinder head and next to the engine block. It will start leaking if the gasket is fractured or otherwise damaged. Because they tend to go bad together, the mechanic will often want to repair both the gasket and the thermostat. Whatever you wish to have replaced is up to you, and you can always get a second opinion if you don't think the mechanic is looking out for your best interests. When the gasket is broken, it can be replaced to prevent oil and coolant leaks. By getting this replacement service done as soon as possible, you'll be able to save money on future repairs for years to come.
