THERMOSTAT (REC6E5-12411-30) is a component that senses the temperature of a system and keeps it close to a setpoint. Building heating, central heating, air conditioners, HVAC systems, water heaters, kitchen appliances such as ovens and refrigerators, and medical and scientific incubators all employ thermostats to heat or cool to a setpoint temperature. These devices are frequently referred to as thermostatically regulated loads in the scientific literature (TCLs). In the United States, thermostatically controlled loads account for nearly half of all electricity demand.
