THERMOSTAT 18-3638 is a high-quality Mercury thermostat. It controls the temperature of the water used to cool your boat's engine. It also helps to keep the cooling system pressure stable, allowing heat to transfer from the engine heads to the cylinder walls. The thermostat functions like a valve, opening, and closing based on its temperature. The thermostat disconnects the engine from the radiator until a specific minimum temperature is reached. Without a thermostat, the engine would often lose heat to the radiator and take much longer to warm up.
