When the bearing that takes the radial load, such as a bushing or roller bearing, does not accommodate axial or thrust loads, Flat washer bearings that are sturdy prevent wheels from coming apart from axles. The type of thrust washer depends on the application. Numerous factors, such as temperature, load, and speed, affect the material choice. Thrust washers can be from plastic, brass, bronze, stainless steel, graphite, and many other materials. Low and high-carbon steel make thrust washers. For carbon steel, there are two options: thorough hardening or case hardening.
