A gasket is a mechanical seal that fills the gap between two or more mating surfaces, preventing leakage from or into the fixed items while compression happens. Where there are severe transom angles, the gasket extends to seal against the exhaust. A gasket for the exhaust manifold also seals the connection between the manifold and the cylinder head. Item prevents exhaust from leaking out of the connection. It guarantees that all exhaust gas routes to the catalytic converter for treatment.
