Description

The V-ribbed belt is flatter and broad than the V-belt. Its longitudinal ribs allow it to transmit more stress. Smaller contact angles are also achievable with the V-ribbed belt. V-ribbed belts have nearly replaced V-belts in the passenger automobile market since the late 1980s/early 1990s. It is because a V-belt can often only drive one or two units. A serpentine-like drive cannot be achieved with a V-belt due to the lack of flexibility at the back of the belt. A multi-belt drive would be necessary to drive numerous units with a V-belt. However, this would require additional space.
