The engine smooth idle prevents stalling when the boat is stationary, thanks to the idle air control valve. It will keep repeating this until you press the gas pedal and the boat moves again. The throttle body controls airflow in gasoline engines, which dictates engine speed. The throttle plates are open by depressing the gas pedal, allowing air to enter the intake manifold. More throttle increases engine speed and airflow. When the accelerator foot is released, the throttle body closes, limiting engine speed and airflow.
