While changing or adding new engine boat control cables, we must know the correct measurement, length, and engine type. There will always be two engine control cables on every vessel having mechanical engine controls. One is for shifting, while the other is for slowing the engine. These cables will wear out over time and will need to be replaced at some point. If you're replacing old control cables with new ones from the same manufacturer, it's easier to look for a part number or length on the cable's jacket.
