If appearance is important to you, consider the vertical configuration. The RECMAR WINDLASS VERT 1000W 24V S/C (QUDP31024) is a high-quality and attractive marine product usually found at the foredeck's center. A windlass grasps the anchor rod with its gypsy (which is configured vertically) and uses it to raise or lower the anchor out of the sea. Windlasses, like winches, come in a variety of sizes, however, vertical windlasses require an anchor locker size of 18 inches. Because the motor is below deck with vertical windlasses, you don't have to think about the weather, but you may have to think about the corrosion in the damp conditions of your anchor locker.
