Description

Volvo Penta's WOODRUFF KEY (3852663) is a half-moon-shaped machine key that stops gears, hubs, or other components from moving independently of a rotating shaft or spindle. They also serve as a failsafe, preventing expensive parts from shearing under high stress. Maintain a tight fit in the key seat to hold a woodruff key in place when installing a mating component. Because woodruff keys are constructed to close tolerances, they frequently require a press fit into their seat. This is accomplished by softly hitting the flat, projecting face of the key with a hammer or mallet until it is securely installed. The key will still protrude over the surface of the mating shaft to secure the mating hub or gear. If the key still falls or slides out during component installation, it is most probable that the key is too tiny for the host groove.
