It is in many grinding and sanding applications because of its low heat retention and low specific heat. Corundum, a mineral that naturally contains aluminum oxide, is only utilized as a component of emery and is not used as a commercial abrasive. It generates an abrasive appropriate for finishing tasks when mixed with emery or crocus.
