When our boat is running higher or above the water's surface, a high rake aids the propeller in producing impulse and aids in the effective elevation of the bow, resulting in a reduction of hull wetted surfaces and an ultimate speed. However, there is another explanation for the higher speed. Because the bottom unit is exposed less to the water, a high rake allows the engine higher, lowering the hydrodynamic resistance of the lower unit. The Raker propeller uses vent holes in the outer exhaust hub to allow exhaust gases to ventilate the blade region. It helps the engine to rev higher and get the boat more quickly.
