An alternator generates an ac voltage to convert mechanical energy into electricity. The alternator's stator and rotor function as magnets that revolve to generate alternating electricity. The alternating current (AC) is converted to direct current (DC) and is used to charge the battery. The Arco Inboard Alternator - ARCO Marine (60055) is the ARCO NEW OEM Premium Replacement Alternator that fits the late model Mercruiser with an internal regulator that controls the voltage through the wire coil present in the rotor, which produces a magnetic field. Arco Inboard Alternator - ARCO Marine (60055) component has special rust and corrosion-resistant coatings to prevent water damage. All alternators by Arco Marine are made for precision quality, performance, and reliability.
