The distributor cap safeguards the internal parts of the distributor and maintains the contacts between the inner rotor and the spark plug wires. The distributor caps and rotors transmit the electricity from the ignition coils to the engine's cylinders, where it ignites the fuel-air mixture and generates power. The rotor, which rotates inside the distributor cap, is directly coupled to the coil.
While supporting extremely high volts of energy and directing them to the proper spark plugs, the distributor cap maintains the contents of the distributor isolated from the engine and the working areas of the distributor clean and organized.
