Ignition coils are utilized in all modern gasoline engines for the same essential purpose: to provide the high voltage needed to ignite the spark plug. The current-voltage flowing through the ignition coil soared to new heights. The energy must jump over the gap between the spark plugs and create a forceful spark at this high voltage. When a wave breaks, the electricity produced may not reach the spark plug as intended. When this happens, the electricity created inside the secondary windings seeks out the least-resistance path to the earth.
