An Exhaust Cover Gasket - Sierra Marine Engine Parts - 18-2500-9 (118-2500-9) is a mechanical seal well-constructed from embossed steel with multiple layers. However, it can also be well-produced using ceramic composites, high-temperature fiber, graphite, and mixtures of those materials. It is an essential part of the engine and acts as an elastomeric sealant at the point where two surfaces, the cylinder head, and the manifold unit, meet. Only one exhaust manifold gasket is in various vessel engine systems. Some engines, like a V6 or V8, call for two. The materials used for the exhaust manifold gasket and other engine system gaskets, such as the flange and ring gaskets, are typically the same.
