The float system's purpose is to keep the fuel level in the carburetor at a predetermined level at all times, regardless of operating conditions. Because the float system controls the flow of gasoline into all of the carburetor's other circuits, it must be set properly and operated. If the float is set too low at higher speeds, the engine will run out of fuel. On the other hand, if the float is set too high, too much fuel will flow through the carburetor circuits, causing the engine to load or a mileage complaint. The float system can only function properly if the operating parts, such as the needle valve and seat, and the float pin, are in good condition.
