Grease caps are not just decorative accessories for your trailer, but they serve a real purpose. You will find it at the very center of the wheel. These caps are small circular metal cover grease caps. The purpose of the grease caps will keep the dirt, dust, sand, water, salt, and road grime out of your wheel bearings, which can (and will) destroy bearings. Lacking grease caps in your wheel bearings wouldn't survive for very long out on the road. The Grease Cap, 1.986" OD Zerk Lube Drive-In w/Plug (Qty 2) (4-150910), protects the bearing grease from contamination and also holds the wheel bearings in place. Not only should the bearings be greased but also the grease cap. Because when the cap was empty, the grease would ultimately seep into the cap, filling it but leaving the bearings dry.
