Cylinder Block Cover Gasket - Sierra Marine Engine Parts - 18-2505-9 (118-2505-9) Sea Star Solutions is designed for use with Mercury 80 hp and 75 HP outboard engines. It is interchangeable with Mercury Marine 27-96171 and 27-961711 and GLM 32420. The package includes two cylinder block cover gaskets. A valve cover gasket is an engine component that protects cylinder head components from the weather while also preventing oil from exiting the engine. The gasket is often constructed of plastic, rubber, or cork to provide a tight seal between the engine cover and the engine, operating as a two-way barrier. The head gasket is critical in sealing the engine's combustion chamber so that your engine can create the necessary compression to retain engine power. It also prevents coolant or oil from seeping elsewhere, reducing the risk of your engine overheating and catching fire.
