The internal rotor of the distributor is covered by the distributor cap, which also contains the contacts between them and the spark plug wires. The distributor rotor and cap support the extremely high voltages of energy and distribute them to the proper spark plugs while keeping the distributor's contents separate from the engine and keeping the distributor's functioning parts clean and orderly. The spark from the distributor is used by the spark plugs to ignite the fuel mixture, which powers the engine. During the operation of your car, high voltage passes through the entire distributor system, but if there is a problem, this voltage won't be transferred to the proper spark plugs to ensure that your engine will function. A damaged distributor rotor and cap typically cause a few symptoms that let the driver know that repair work might be necessary.
