Simply put, an impeller is a rotor in a pump that produces an intrinsic sucking force. A boat's impeller is a series of flexible rubber vanes connected to a central hub. This hub spins on an axis inside a stainless-steel liner housed inside the pump. The impeller pumps cold water into the boat's engine to keep it cool when under load. The water pump on marine motors has an impeller that brings water from outside into the plumbing system.
