To change the outboard into or out of gear, the shift shaft makes contact with the transmission. Additionally, it communicates with the transmission to determine which way the propeller shaft should rotate, propelling the boat forward or backward. The shift shaft requires little to no maintenance, and if the bottom unit is kept in good condition, it should last the whole life of the outboard. The GLM 21030, Mallory 9-72476, Mercruiser 774811, 37973, 65028, 66066, and 77481 are all compatible with the Sierra 18-2150 Shift Shaft. The original equipment part that each Sierra product replaces is exceeded by them. Marine-grade stainless steel is used to provide maximum performance and dependability.
