A NY lock nut is a locknut with a nylon collar that increases friction on the screw thread. It is also known as a nylon-insert lock nut, polymer-insert lock nut, or elastic stop nut. The nut can also help to prevent liquids like water, oil, gasoline, and paraffin from seeping into the bolt thread. Locknuts come in any designs, including those with flanges or threaded nylon inserts that tightly grip fastener threads and those with teeth washers or serrated flanges that puncture surfaces.
