SEAL, SHIFT SHAFT - MERCURY (18-8308) is the world's best-selling marine mechanical seal, and many of the world's most prominent boat builders and boatyards use it as standard equipment. It is also the best retrofit (aftermarket) seal on the international market. Shift shaft removes the maintenance, frequent adjustment, and cost associated with standard packing glands. It also aids in the elimination of water in the bilge (100 percent waterproof) and wears on the propeller shaft, among other things. The seal, shift shaft, is a sealing element that prevents fluid leakage to the atmosphere or air entrance from the outside of a centrifugal pump by sealing the rotating shaft as it passes through the non-spinning pump casing. It also reduces the wear of the sealing faces to a minimum.
