Rollers are your ready-for-almost-anything option if you boat in areas with shallow ramps, rocky seas, strong gusts, or other less-than-ideal conditions. Your boat will slip into (or out of) the water with no resistance or friction if you just use rollers and gravity. Therefore, you need rollers if you don't feel comfortable sinking your boat trailer (for example, if you want to keep it out of saline water) or if you can't just reverse your trailer far enough to float your boat off. The good news is that your running gear won't rust as rapidly as one whose trailer is constantly exposed to water because you don't have to plunge it into it.
