A high coolant temperature alarm is used in generator protections to notify the operator when the engine has a high coolant temperature. A coolant temperature sender or switch can indicate a high coolant temperature.
An engine protection device called a coolant temperature sender keeps track of the engine's coolant temperature. It is often screwed into the engine block and, depending on the oil pressure in the engine, it can produce a variety of numbers. Different output methods are available for oil pressure senders. Sometimes resistance, capacitance, or voltage are utilized, although, in diesel generators, they are typical of the resistive variety.
