Enders cushion the impact of vessels colliding with docks or other vessels. They protect the boat from damage and slow it down as it surges and rolls around. Boats with permanent slips frequently personalize their space by installing dock guards, dock wheels, or cushions, so that the dock carries the protection. These types of padding will not swing out of the way because they can be placed right at the point of contact. Dock cushions can protect fenders from damage when they are not precisely aligned.
