A universal joint, also known as a universal coupling or a U-joint, connects two rigid shafts whose axes are inclined toward one another. It is in rotary motion-transmitting shafts. All Mercruiser #1 R, MR, and Alpha Gen II (0K999999 & Below) (1971-1997) stern drives can use Sierra's 18-9218 U-Joint Assembly. Two Sierra 18-2174 U-Joint Cross & Bearings (Heavy Duty), one Sierra 18-2146 Yoke, one Sierra 18-2125 Yoke, one Sierra 18-7117 O-Ring, and two Sierra 18-7153 O-Rings are included in the assembly package. Mercruiser Stern Drive 59829A1, 59830A5, 814819A2, Mallory 9-72409, GLM 28050, and the kit are all interchangeable. Before buying, check the manufacturer's guidelines to be sure it will fit correctly. All Sierra products are equal to the original equipment parts they replace.
