The elbows are formed from different materials, such as cast iron, stainless steel, and dur-aluminum, that can be used to make elbows (which are reputed to be long-lasting). They can be cast or have a fabricated and welded construction. Carbon can accumulate and obstruct the exhaust after the engine has been idled for a long time, causing problems starting and exhaust breathing. To ensure proper and safe cooling while at sea, genuine Volvo exhaust elbows are good for Volvo Penta's design and specification.
