VOLVO PENTA S/D_VOLVO ENGINES - 18-03602 a marine propulsion method known as a sterndrive or inboard/outboard drive (I/O) combines inboard power with outboard drive. The drive unit, also known as the outdrive or drive leg, is located outside the hull and is located just forward of the transom.
It is attached to a drive unit, often known as an "outdrive," which is simply the lower part of an outboard motor, through the transom. It has the propeller attached to it and the other end rotated by the engine. It includes all stern drives with Volvo 4-cyl engines.
