The Yamaha Ignition Pack CDI Electronics (117-6H4-21) is responsible for igniting each engine cylinder's spark plug. A low voltage current runs from the battery through the primary windings of the ignition coil, past the breaker points, and back to the battery when the ignition key is turned on. The development of a magnetic field that surrounds the coils creates the current flow. An ignition coil pack is a transformer that raises low voltage from the battery to a level that can generate a spark to bridge the gap in a spark plug, igniting the gasoline and air in an engine's cylinder.
