A short hollow rod called FORWARD GEAR BEARING (118-1159) is composed of a forged steel alloy with outstanding strength and hardness. Physically the crosshead, piston, and connecting rod are distinct from it. Designing the FORWARD GEAR BEARING is problematic when using small, high-revving vehicle engines (118-1159). Because of its placement and the need for lubrication, the FORWARD GEAR BEARING (118-1159) must operate at some of the engine's highest temperatures to fit into the piston's diameter and avoid unnecessarily increasing the engine's reciprocating mass.
